What happened previously:

The day had been stressful and yes, he had in mind that they wanted to come over. But he had forgotten that one of his brothers was also at home and would open the front door. He just wanted to relax for five minutes and give his true nature some space when the door opened and they stood in the room. He had expected panic, shouting and already preparing to stop them from escaping. Even the idea of erasing their memory of what they saw had crossed his mind. But instead they just stood there and stared at him. He would not have dreamed that a smile would finally spread across their face. "Wow, that's... wow..." they stammered and took a step towards him.

James:

He immediately apologizes. Not that he's ashamed of being a demon, or of his true form per se, he just doesn't think a human should see him that way. In his opinion, humans can't deal with something so unfamiliar. The fact that they ask him if they can touch his horns throws him off. Not that he shows it. Presumably he'll let his horns be touched and answer their questions, even though he's tense and not comfortable with the whole situation. He's most likely one of the brothers who cast a spell on the human afterward to make them forget they saw him like that. Some things just shouldn't be known by more people than absolutely necessary, whether he trusts them or not. Just a precaution.

Erik:

He is surprised and more than confused by the reaction. The element of surprise tempts him to quickly put on his usual mask to cover up his insecurity. Erik doesn't mind if they want to touch him. On the contrary. He'll even get a bit flirtatious and will encourage them to touch him as much as they want. Of course, he'll also answer questions, though he'll be more keen to let his true form speak for himself. Their disbelief and enthusiasm make him smile. However, he will presumably consult with his brothers, most notably James, about whether it is a wise decision for humans to know their true forms. And no matter how unfortunate he finds it, he also tends to rob them of the memories of that precious moment.

Sam:

Sam is a little overwhelmed at first. Unlike some of his brothers, he's not worried about them running away, he just knows he's way faster. He takes great pride in his true form and makes no secret of it. But he doesn't like the fact that they want to touch him at all. He will probably only let himself be touched if the person really has a lot of persuasive skills. And even then, he doesn't like it very much. After all, he is not an animal in a petting zoo, although the touch of his horns is quite pleasant. Whether he comes up with the idea of undoing what happened depends on how much he trusts the person. If he has the slightest doubt that they might accidentally reveal something, he will adjust to his older brothers' handling. With him, however, there is also a chance that he lets the person live with the knowledge, no matter what his brothers say about it.

Matthew:

He catches himself much faster than most of his brothers. Matthew doesn't mind the person seeing him that way, nor is he particularly uncomfortable with it. He tries to downplay the situation a bit, though, although he's clearly comfortable with them making such a fuss about his true form. Like Erik, he has no problem with being touched, although he won't encourage them further. Rather a self-protection, because it would be far too easy to withdraw energy in this situation and he really doesn't want that now. He would also answer questions and feels quite pleasant in the role of the one who explains it. Like Sam, it depends on the relationship of trust whether he acts afterwards or not, although he is more likely to be persuaded by James than his brother.

Damien:

Instant regret. Damien is shocked and more than uncomfortable that the person surprised him so much. It helps that he hears all the positive comments and thoughts in their mind, but he has a sinking feeling in his stomach that he can't shake. He probably wouldn't let himself be touched and instead would explain why he didn't want it. Damien is having trouble accepting that his true form is receiving such positive attention and will likely end the encounter as soon as he can. He will also most likely bring a spell into play to finally clarify this situation. He came to the human world to leave his life as a demon behind. Only when love is involved would Damien show his true form, and then only when the person realizes the pain involved.

Clare is mischaracterized a lot lowkey because I think people love Clare for being an anxious lesbian so much that they instinctively craft a more palatable version of that trait onto her and it’s a shame because Clare is a fascinating little beastie. She is childhood friends with the likes of Erin and Michelle for a reason after all. She is arguably just as selfish as Erin /affectionate and just as impulsive as Michelle /affectionate it just is formed around the insane molten hot anxiety disorder inside her little lesbian brain. She thinks she’s better than them when in reality she is just as bad.

I’d argue she stays selfish /affectionate longer than Erin does. Until the final two episodes I fully believe Clare would have sold any of them up the river for a corn chip if that corn chip would save her skin. It’s often said that Clare and James hold the single brain cell but I think the truth is likely that Orla holds it and they just forgot to use it or hand it to someone cause they were going ham on a bag of sweets.

If you hate Erin for her selfish traits and just kinda forget that Clare is just as bad then idk what to tell you they’re birds of a feather.

And speaking of, when he did have a love interest---the way poor Sarah was talked about jfc. When she showed up I was like "okay great I love her and her finally calling him on losing his socialist principles once the palace doors were opened to him, she's going to bring him back to his morals" but instead she was thrown out and treated like the absolute devil incarnate and all the protagonists joked about how obviously evil she was because as Mrs. Hughes said "heaven forbid we contradict the holy Family."

Hey, I wrote a little scenario that takes place after the games. Please keep in mind that I have very few points of reference on the subject of depression and therefore am not sure how best to respond to those affected to help them. Take care of yourselves.

One last signature. James leaned back in his chair and surveyed the view from his office. He had accomplished everything he had planned for today, but all day his thoughts had been on his partner who was waiting for him at home. Something was wrong.

For several weeks he had noticed the change in their behavior. His partner was more tired than usual, lethargic and they seemed to suffer from self-doubt. At first James thought they was just a little stressed, but as the days went by it became clear that it wasn't just listlessness. Of course, James had started researching. He had read many articles on the subject. Non-fiction books written by doctors, reports from those affected. And even if, thanks to his ability, he had quickly found out what was going on, it was now all the more difficult for him to use his knowledge in the right way.

Because there was no secret recipe for people who suffer from depression. No formula that fits every human being and rules that could be strictly followed to help them. It was as individual as each person. And although James knew his partner very well, as he himself believed, after all he wanted to spend the rest of his life with them, he struggled with how best to help.

But he wouldn't give up, they mean too much to him to let them down. He would always stand behind them and help them where and how he could. They weren't alone and he would do anything in his power to prove it to them.

When he let the door close behind him at home, he immediately went in search of them. "Love? Are you there?" It wasn't long before he heard bare feet tapping on the floor, approaching him from the direction of the bedroom. Just a moment later they turned around the corner. They were wearing sweatpants and a shirt that he knew he'd placed neatly on the dresser by his side of the bed just last night. Their hair was tousled and it seemed like they had just woken up.

His heart jumped a little at the sight of them. No matter how often he saw them, no matter what they wore and how their outward appearance affected others, since he had met them years ago they had always been the most beautiful person he had ever seen.

With a quick step he stepped in front of them and wordlessly took them in his arms, their greeting muffled. Their stature seemed small and fragile in his arms, even though he was not in demon form, and he knew he would traverse this world and any other if they ended up waiting for him. After a brief moment of silence, just enjoying his love's snuggling up against him, he lifted his head to kiss them on the forehead. A ritual he did every day when he got home from work and every time a pleasant warmth spread through him. "I hope you had a nice day?"

An hour later they were sitting on the sofa, he had exchanged his jacket and shirt for a sweater, they had snuggled up to his arm while they waited for the meal they had ordered from their favorite Italian place. There was a TV show playing in the background that James knew they liked to watch.

There was a cozy atmosphere until a soft whisper came from their side. "I'm sorry." The words were barely more than a breath, but they still sounded like a drumbeat to James. His grip on them tightened. "Sorry about what, love?" They had averted their eyes when he glanced sideways at them. After another minute of silence, they finally said, "That I couldn't bring myself to go out to dinner with you. I know how important today's deal was to you. That you were looking forward to celebrating it with me tonight..."

The sadness in their voice made him swallow. "My love, that's not..." "I saw the reservation.", they interrupted him and turned to him in his arm. "I know how much you like to eat there" internally he could have hit himself because he shouldn't have left the reservation lying around. Tears welled up in their eyes "It's just... I... I just can't. I just can't bring myself to go there with you. You deserve so much more than someone like me who can't even bring themselves to be really happy for you. Someone who can get their own life on track and have your back the same way you have my back. You are amazing and I'm just..."

"Stop!" he had to cut them off, unable to listen to them belittling themselves any longer. He wiped away a tear on their cheek before gently lifting their head under the chin so he could look into their eyes. "Please, my love, stop talking about yourself like that! You are wonderful! Yes, it's true, I made a reservation for us there, but I don't care. I care about you. And if you don't feel like it it's totally fine. I don't need a restaurant or someone in fancy clothes to feel good. Here, with you in my arms, I'm the happiest I can be. You're my partner, my heart and I just need you."

With every word he spoke more tears ran down their cheeks. James took them in his arms again and hugged them. He could feel them trembling against his chest as if they were cold. "I'm just so broken. I don't know what to do..." they sobbed softly and James closed his eyes. It was almost unbearable for him to see them so sad. They talked for a while, while he continued to hold them in his arms. Soft words were exchanged and James did his best to allay their self-doubt and remorse. Of course, he also offered them help, but he left the decision up to them. The food that was delivered to them had already gone cold when they fell asleep in his arms.

He carried their sleeping from into the bedroom and put them softly on the bed. After changing, he laid down next to them, pulled the covers over them both and snuggled up to them. He kissed the crown of their hair and whispered, "I love you! And I'll be by your side every step of the way!"
